#1 CALLING ALL UK SHOOTERS - Semi Auto & Home Office

Fri May 22, 2015 4:06 pm

>>> http://basc.org.uk/political-affairs/contact-us/ <<<<

Please let the BASC :

1. Hear your views regarding the current legal right to purchase "FREE" non FAC , semi auto air rifles like the Steyr SA (import from Europe per Free Trade agreement)

2. Get the BASC to schedule a meeting with Home Office ASAP to possibly: rebutt, what has been said (awaiting minutes of meeting, under FOI) with the GTA

3. Spread the word like wild fire to all Club Secretaries- FT, HFT, 10m shooters and anyone with a general interest in all matters regarding the legal use, of sub (non FAC) air rifles, air pistols, etc...

BEFORE The GTA and or Home Office take action in modifying legislation or UK law, vis a vis, in banning - acquisition, owning or using:

Semi Auto

a) air pistols ie: Steyr LP50 (6 ft/lb) and/or

b) Steyr Hunting 5 (12 ft/lb)

Our Sport, Hobby, and Airgunning pleasure & rights are under threat from a Trade body who - (one suspects from allusions posted on Public Forums) - does not wish the UK consumer to have access to products, they themselves do not manufacture in the UK, nor control in quantity .....as we purchase these semi autos in greater numbers at a massive £££savings from Europe (thus bypassing UK shops - who are members of AMTA and or GTA).

Please report any info. you may have to in the strictest confidence to:

https://www.gov.uk/government/organisat ... -authority but specifically here >> https://www.gov.uk/government/publicati ... to-the-cma

got a reply from this chap...mind you - Its a strange situation as my understanding is as follows:

UK shops are NOT allowed to sell sub 12 ft/lb Semi Auto - and will be prosecuted by the CPS .

BUT, its OK, to buy and own a semi auto sub 12 ft/lb - that is, bought & imported to UK from Europe for personal use...(as I have emails from Fire Arms Officers who saw the Steyr SA video & clay pigeon shoot, at sub 12 ft/lb and Steyr Sports web page specs.)

HOW SCREWED UP is that ??? no wonder some UK organization wants to sow mass confusion ;) and slow down the SA legal personal imports ...

Those who've started this - are persons non grata in any social gathering, be it partywise at formal or informal gatherings, or in & around comps. They should be shunned. Act civil, be diplomatic, but run for the hills, like they are Ebola infected...

" I would like to explain that the situation is:

Under section 5(1)(ab) of the Firearms Act 1968 (as amended), all self-loading or pump-action rifled guns are classified as prohibited other than those which are chambered for .22 rim-fire cartridges. You will note that there is no exemption in this provision for air rifles/weapons.

The Home Office Circular (HOC) 68/97 was intended as a guide to cover those persons then (in 1997) in possession of such weapons. In the event, no changes were made to the legislation to accommodate current sales and the situation remains as set out above.

I hope that this is helpful.

Yours sincerely,

Adam

in contrast to 30th April 2015- Mr. Lassman sent the response on same day - 30th April... to someone else.

Sent: 30 April 2015 13:32
To: 'XXXXXXXXXX'
Subject: FW: Semi Automatic sub 12 foot pound energy air rifles.

Dear Mr XXXXX,

The CPS link is still valid and has not been superseded.

The HO guidance does not mention semi-automatic air rifles specifically, but this is implicit whenever the
guidance mentions air rifles.

A semi-automatic air rifle which has an energy rating of under 12 foot lbs does not need to be on a
certificate.

I hope that this helps.
Adam

I believe the barrel length of the AirArms TX200 Hunter Carbine to be illegally too short, it is however made and sold in the UK!

I made the point about pistols several times on several different forums, but at that point everyone was still in a feeding frenzy over the GTA going behind the backs of UK shooters in order to try and shut the import route via a closed meeting with the HO , as opposed to allegedly e-mailing European traders direct.

I'm glad now that things have calmed down, people are starting to see the contradiction which has been staring us in the face the whole time.

Perhaps an e-mail to each of those traders, pointing out what 'their' trade association has been up to would not go amiss.

Home Office Circular - countering what the GTA are saying

This puts EVERYTHING in perspective - however the GTA are saying the "circular" is not even law, and are dismissing in the whole context

Neil, you have an eagle eye mate...and you're absolute right regarding semi auto pistols, and definitions, or English comprehension...which is why I picked up your point...and ran with it...and the ramifications are clear, and shockingly self defeating:

>> "rifled guns" > 'rifled' > Adjective > http://www.memidex.com/rifled+adjective

PLUS word: guns (PLURAL) = Semi Auto LP50 pistol (a gun), with 'rifled' barrel - is also "caught" if its defined in this manner - so the trade has walked on its own landmine (IMHO) <<

Let's hope all UK shops start pondering what the GTA have said, and let them check with their lawyers about their stocking of semi auto sub 6 ft/lb , rifled barreled pistols ("guns").

Panic ? Stampede to unload ? phone ringing non stop at GTA office ? Home Office now getting deluged with calls, emails from shop owners direct ???? Are punitive fines retro-active ?

I wonder WHO excatly are the Brain(s) behind their strategy.

in Red, my emphasis to highlight the important points ...

Rifled: http://www.memidex.com/rifled+adjective

Guns: Plural - to mean pistol or rifle

Air Weapons: well, those low powered (Non FAC) - below 12 ft/lb (rifles) & below 6ft/lb) pistols respectively...

Self-loading: examples - Steyr a) Steyr 5 Semi Auto : 12 ft/lb model, and b) Steyr LP50 (6ft/lb) <<< Examples are "low powered" and thus Kosher
