These those newer blanks around 24" long with the rifling an insert crimped in to an outer steel tube?

In other words what you have on a P70 and LG400. In which case probably a waste of £67.50 plus RFD fee and fitting.

TBH

I bought a couple of BSA barrels with high expectations....had read tid bits on various forums about how Steyr LG110 Ft shooters had fitted the BSA barrel in the quest for supreme accuracy...and when given the chance to do so on a Fwb P70....i was rather SHOCKED at pellet spread

So i suppose what youre saying Jon, is that these are NOT the same high quality BSA barrels used to make...but are rather a poorly pressed together assembly...masquerading as the quality stuff from years ago ?

I used to buy the .174 direct until around 1994 £11.50 each made in house.
They came with double choke except muzzle was more than the breach end if kept full length. Cut breach end back 2" still tight, rodding forward pellet rattled down to the choke. Only ever had one any good and that wasnt brilliant. Seen exactly that on new rifles but majority are good.

The new ones look good and easy to work with. Can tell by what looks like a hammer forge crimping the liner in like early Steyr LG10 and LG100 barley twist externally but not as pronounced. Can even see a gap at liner inserted in to outer tube.
Nicely made but worthless.

Quality is fine but that dont make them shoot straight.

Too many copiers on that link.

Lets just say its useless having something that looks ok and dont shoot any good.
Quality is far better than of old, gone are the double choke, just the one in the right place at muzzle, pellets rod through nicely no tight or loose spots than of old as well.

You can have a barrel thats looks as rough as arseholes ie a certain chinese from 17 year ago complete with file marks in the rifling, they are accurate.

Quality isnt an accuracy issue. When you order blanks from well known suppliers they will ask you for the spec, if no good tough, the quality is there in the manufacture.

Seems to be a good Way Airgauging them, like FWB did a long time ago with the 300/S Barrels. I've been told that uniformity and Roundness down the Bore is Key. Shouldn't matter really much if rifled or just honed, as long as it's choked. Maybe it's another Thing when going > 330m/s.

Most Cheap Airgun Barrels aren't drilled and reamed, but Drawn-Over-Mandrel Tubing and simply button rifled with a Carbide Button these Days. Of course Roundness and Diameter Variation is sh!tty that Way.

I think Steyr Sport never had the Machinery to hammer forge the Barrels. That was Steyr-Mannlicher. But I could be wrong on that.

When Steyr was Steyr it had its own site with links to hammer forging maybe in the Daimler Puch factory.
LG10 and early LG100 were hammer forged.

I know the CZ are pretty good, i will jog my memory as to whether they are uniform or not up to the choke.

Lothar Walther will supply tubes so that manufacturers can put their own rifling in, Webley ended up doing that.
