Dont look like its attached to the focus, some needless gismo to reverse the direction of adjusting the turret, add weight and bring it closer to eye bell at expense of mounting arrangements?

This looks like one of my early designs back in 2008 and the reason is not the reversed direction but to keep all the needed clicks in one turn. It would work even better if we do the adjustments by rotating the scope turret itself and the bigger knob only follows it free and shows the click values.

This is an Escap design and the intent was to have double of the clicks in one turn on a Big BSA / Big Nikko.
It has a 2:1 gear-ratio and the result is the 120clicks (Originally it has 60 clicks)
