Anyone know which company does this to their barrel ends? (.177) recess is 10mm deep.

Is that the muzzle end?
BSA have done it for decades presumably for when attaching front sights and not breaking in to rifling.

Yes it's the muzzle end. If it helps barrel is 15mm dia 575mm long.
I remember my old airsporter had similar but it was much deeper and hole was bigger iirc.
