The one I shot still had the A frame, but the barrel was not touching it or connected to it in any way.

Cylinder will be.
You would be highly surprised at the amount of deflection even a robust tube/cylinder moves over the charge.
If its bedded in on one point the A frame can be pulling at a given pressure and ok else where or even pull totally at the opposite side on pressure drop. Laminate moves with humidity expanding and contracting even sealed from the elements.
Was informed Ata fixed at two points which makes it worse.
Some actions when actions bedded in correct and cylinder free floating, not from the highly raved about will see as nipping up via single point fixing the barrel will close towards cylinder, bit more tension barrel then moves away yet cylinder not touching anything.
Poor inletting people used to leave the action loose. Remember Mick Dawes with his MDS and Custom Stock he used to make a party piece out of it clunking.
