Field Target with Air rifles in South Africa

"Our Field Target fans from South Africa sent a report about their national Field Target competition:

“The South African Field Target Nationals was held in March at Krugersdorp in South Africa. It was a very windy weekend for the 48 shooters , with winds gusting up to 37km\h at stages which made a huge difference to the difficulty of the range for the 3 days of shooting. Day temperatures was 29- 31C with clear skies all day. The range was setup on the foot of part the "Magalasie " mountains.

On the first day of shooting the scores was close to each other for the top shooter as the weather conditions was mild and the wind started to pickup speed in the afternoon. On the second day the scores was spread out more between the top shooters as the condition of the wind really picked up speed early in the morning. Jacques Fouche shooting his Walther LG300 fell from 2nd position on the first day to 5th position on the second day. On the 3rd day the wind had calm down a bit as the shooters started preparing for the days shoot but they were not aware of what would happen on the last day of shooting. Jacques was 12 points behind the leader on that morning when they started shooting on the last day of the competition . After the scores were checked, there were 3 shooters in the No1 position. So there had to be a shootout. Jacques was shooting with his Walther air rifle with which he caught up to the leader, leading him by 12 points, starting the last day of shooting . As they commence with the shootout, it was quite clear that the pressure was too much for two of the three, and Jacques won the South African Field Target National Championship with his Walther LG300, which he proudly shows on the picture. It was indeed a great performance from him and his equipment.”
