BSA Barrel - Insert ...Bizarre fabrication

Explanation given from RatWorks to my query about the "insert":

"The 'insert' you can see is the way BSA crown their barrels with a flat faced cutter, leaving what appears to be an inset inner ring. I assure you they are solid."

Sure..ugly

BUT, looks like 2 different metals, not concentric, and must be really an 'insert' (if it looks like a duck, quacks likes a duck - then its a duck) - what a way to assemble or manufacture a barrel..any metal workers / engineers believe the explanation given

I think the best solution is to put the whole barrel through an X ray that would be the end of the discussion..

I cant tell from that piccy, would need to look at the other end.

If that was a .177 the outer diameter would tie in with the outer diameter of the liner.

I have such a barrel here from 2007 as a blank. Came what appeared to be hammer forged with very light swirly crimp marks sundued to the Steyr barley twist done in Daimler Puch factory.
In general finished dia of BSA have nearly always been 15.47mm from Super 10 onwards. These inferior should we say barrels may then be linished or centrelessly ground ending up 15.47mm.

Either way that crowning looks gash probably better off leaving untouched.

Leupy ones were hand selected by a retired worker there now retired.

My above post to add, if it is a liner barrel that crowning would hide it. Also the liners solid, so is the outer.
Liner ones the outer barrel parts from the liner doing Steyrs, will show easily on Anchutz external taper have one done. Will also part doing Feinwerkbau P70 to P800, Pardinis or any other direct feed rifle.

These barrels i first clocked 10 years ago, have one done for a newer Anchutz 2004 onwards, yet theres still some that dont know what t look for.
